Project: Computational human genomics with applications to higher-order repeats

On the basis of our recently introduced Key String Algorithm (KSA)

Rosandic M. Paar V. Basar I. Key-string segmentation algorithm and higher-order repeat 16mer (54 copies) in human alpha satellite DNA in chromosome 7. [Article] Journal of Theoretical Biology. 221(1):29-37, 2003 Mar 7. USA

systematic computational investigation of GenBank data will be performed for alpha satellite higher-order repeats (HORs) in the centromeric region of all human chromosomes. Several novel algorithms and computer programs for genomic analysis of complex repetitive structure in anonymous genomic sequences will be developed, characterized by high degree of robustness to insertions, deletions and point mutations, and applied to human genome sequence. The study will be extented to segmental duplication and polymorphism in human genome.
