Abstract
The low-energy experimental spectra of the N=59 isotones are known to differ greatly. Of particular note is the abrupt change in the structure between /sup 103/Ru and /sup 105/Pd (Z=44 and 46) and between /sup 99/Zr and /sup 101/Mo (Z=40 and 42). The authors give a cursory summary of their investigations that have shown that they can, not only account for the structure of /sup 105/Pd within fermion-boson model calculations, but when they use these types of calculations for /sup 103/Ru, the fermion-boson model exchange coupling strength (ECS) must be increased. They associate this increase with the greater availability of the 1g/sub 9/2/ protons and their strong interaction with the 1g/sub 7/2/ neutrons. Also, they can account for the change between /sup 101/Mo and /sup 99/Zr within the context of the recently discovered full set of collective excitations built on the /sup 98/Zr intruder state and the occurrence of double subshell closure characteristics for both /sup 96/Zr and /sup 98/Zr.
